PANews reported on September 24 that David Hoffman, co-founder of Bankless, wrote that the crypto market occasionally sees a single asset undertake the transfer of funds from Bitcoin holders. A similar situation occurred with ETH in 2021, and ZEC in 2026 is similar to ETH that year. With its privacy and anti-quantum narrative, ZEC has successfully attracted some Bitcoin holders to view it as a “just in case” hedge, thus driving a surge in market value. What’s really driving ZEC’s rise is the spillover of BTC wealth, not brand new money. Additionally, NEAR is taking on relatively weak “smart contract buying” in 2026. At the same time, Hoffman believes that it is difficult for BTC and ETH to grow 10 times more, and innovation is more captured by new projects such as Hyperliquid, Ethena and traditional finance, which may limit the scale expansion of the entire encryption industry.
